Week of 31st March 2014

This week I have been experimenting with embroidery and mixed media using things like organza as threads and bolts to create 3d circles. I like the effects I have created however I realise that within a fashion context some could be difficult to place.

Week of 10th March 2014

From the reflection of previous projects and modules, I have concluded that the work I produce is best achieved when working towards fixed briefs. I now realise that I prefer working within guidelines and believe that this can help with my management of a project whilst appears dependent on the quality and quantity of work generated.
These reasons have settled my decision for working with a fixed brief for this last unit x module which I have decided will be the current live brief from Hand and Lock company. I have chosen this particular love for embroidery and fashion based context. I also felt that this would be a good way of showing collaboration it is not that of another designer but I am combining my work against another’s.
From looking into the brief further, I realise that the suggested research was very broad however; I noticed there was an option ‘national history museum’, which I had actually not that long ago visited, from this trip I could remember seeing some interesting beetles. This is where my research was to begin; I then started looking at the photographs taken of the beetles as well as those that other people had photographed, getting them off blogs and imagery sites such as Pinterest etc.  These images collated instantly drew my eye to the unusual shapes, colours and patterns in which were occurring within these beetle imagery.I started to look at the colour palette that was within the Hand and Lock brief, and started making comparisons.
From looking at the imagery of these beetles, I realised that the interest I had in them was defiantly the colouring. However, I could see comparison in the work I usually do. My work is typically inspired by imagery of interest, which is usually in some way related to natural forms such as decay. I usually get this imagery from my own photography. These beetles I has been looking at had patterns like rust and crusting paint.
